The Real Numbers For Immigration Costs

So often, we get caught up in a debate over political semantics and end up

ignoring the hard-shell realities of what we're talking about. According to

<http://immigrationcounters.com/> here are some of the realities that

Flake-Gutierrez Bill would airbrush out of the picture:

Number of Illegal Aliens in the Country

20,807,645

Money Wired to Mexico City since January, 2006

$22,213,001,672.00

Cost of Social Security Services for Illegal Aliens since 1996

$397,450,739,563.00

Number of Children of Illegal Aliens in Public Schools

3,958,789

Cost of Illegal Aliens in K-12 Since 1996:

$13, 965,063,431.00

Number of Illegal Aliens Incarcerated

332,594

Cost of Incarcerations Since 2001

$1,398,127,429.00

Number of Illegal Aliens Fugitives

642,799

Skilled Jobs Taken by Illegal Aliens

9,872,838

Figures can trick your eyes. Take particular note that items 2,3,5, and 7

reflect BILLION not millions of dollars -- and that item 3 exceeds one-third

of a TRILLION dollars.

Can you imagine how much it will cost taxpayers if we triple the number of

Illegals entering this country!

****************

So, What's in a Billion?.......

Granted................. this is from the US!

The next time you hear a politician use the word "billion" in a casual

manner, think about whether you want the "politicians"

spending your tax money.

A billion is a difficult number to comprehend, but one advertising agency

did a good job of putting that figure into some perspective in one of its

releases.

A. A billion seconds ago it was 1959.

B. A billion minutes ago Jesus was alive.

C. A billion hours ago our ancestors were living in the Stone Age.

D. A billion days ago no-one walked on the earth on two feet.

E. A billion dollars ago was only 8 hours and 20 minutes, at the rate our

government is spending it.

While this thought is still fresh in our brain, let's take a look at New

Orleans. It's amazing what you can learn with some simple division

Louisiana Senator, Mary Landrieu (D), is presently asking the Congress for

$250 BILLION to rebuild New Orleans. Interesting number, what does it mean?

a. Well, if you are one of 484,674 residents of New Orleans (every man,

woman, child), you each get $516,528.00

b. Or, if you have one of the 188,251 homes in New Orleans, your home gets

$1,329,787.00

c. Or, if you are a family of four, your family gets $2,066,012.00

Washington, D.C. ... HELLO!!! ... Are all your calculators broken??

This is too true.........And these numbers don't lie.........

and, it's not funny!!!

WHAT AN EYE-OPENER!

US Navy welcomes
The USS Bill Clinton

Sunday July 2nd'06 Vancover BC Headed for Seattle,Wa.

The US Navy welcomed the latest member of its fleet today.

Pictured above:

The USS William Jefferson Clinton (CVS1) set sail today from
its home port of Vancouver, BC. The ship is the first of its kind
in the Navy and is a standing legacy to President Bill Clinton
"for his foresight in military budget cuts" and his conduct
while president. The ship is constructed nearly entirely from
recycled aluminum and is completely solar powered with a top
speed of 5 knots. It boasts an arsenal comprised of one (unarmed)
F14 Tomcat or one (unarmed) F18 Hornet aircraft which although
they cannot be launched or captured on the 100 foot flight deck
but form a very menacing presence.

As a standing order there are no firearms allowed on board. The
20 person crew is completely diversified and includes members
of all races, creeds, sex, and sexual orientation. This crew, like
the crew aboard the USS Jimmy Carter, is specially trained to
avoid conflicts and appease any and all enemies of the United
States at all costs.

An on board Type One DNC Universal Translator can send out
messages of apology in any language to anyone who may find
America offensive. The number of apologies are limitless and
though some may sound hollow and disingenuous, the Navy
advises all apologies will sound very sincere.

The ship's purpose is not defined so much as a unit of national
defense - but instead in times of conflict the USS Clinton has
orders to seek refuge in Canada. The ship may be positioned
near the Democratic National Party Headquarters for photo-ops
and can be used extensively for social experimentation, and
whatever other worthless jobs, the ex-commander-in-chief and
his wife can think of.

It is largely rumored that the ship will also be the set for the
upcoming season of MTV's "The Real World".

The ship was renamed and commissioned USS William J Clintion
when someone realized the USS Blowfish was already taken.

Lawyer: 2-star general called to testify in case of 24 Iraqi civilians killed in Haditha

THOMAS WATKINS Associated Press Writer

(AP) - SAN DIEGO-A two-star general who commanded Marines in Iraq when 24 civilians were killed in the town of Haditha is set to testify in the first hearing in the case, a lawyer for a Marine charged in the case said.

The Marine Corps has made Maj. Gen. Richard A. Huck, the former commander of the 2nd Marine Division, available for the preliminary hearing next week, Charles Gittins, an attorney representing an officer accused of failing to investigate the deaths, said Tuesday.

Gittins' client, Capt. Randy W. Stone, 34, faces dismissal and up to two years' imprisonment for dereliction of duty and failing to obey orders or regulations.
His Article 32 hearing, which is similar to a civilian grand jury proceeding, is set for May 8. At the end of the hearing, an investigating officer will make a recommendation about whether the charges should go to trial or not.

The Marine Corps and Gittins are negotiating whether Huck will testify in person or by telephone, the lawyer said.

Marine spokesman Lt. Col. Sean Gibson declined to comment about Huck.
The hearing would be the first in the Haditha case, the most serious to have emerged against U.S. troops since the start of the war in Iraq.

The slayings occurred Nov. 19, 2005, in the aftermath of a roadside bomb that killed one Marine and injured two others. Following the blast, Marines killed a group of men by a car and several other Iraqis, including women and children, in nearby homes.

Three enlisted Marines are charged with unpremeditated murder and four officers are charged with failing to report or investigate the deaths. Lawyers for the officers say their clients properly reported the deaths to their superiors.

The enlisted men maintain their innocence, saying they responded to an insurgent attack the way they had been trained to.

Stone, of Dunkirk, Maryland, was the battalion's lawyer. Gittins said he wants to show that Marines at every step of the command chain were aware of the killings, so any decision not to launch an investigation was shared.

According to court documents, Huck was briefed on the killings on Nov. 22 and they did not seem suspicious. Huck told investigators that "no bells and whistles went off."

Gittins said this illustrates the feeling among officers at the time - that based on information from the enlisted men, the killings were the result of a "troops in contact" engagement and officers acted appropriately in reporting events.

Huck, who could not be reached by phone and did not respond to an e-mail message, now works in the Pentagon as assistant deputy commander of plans, policies and operations, said

Marine spokeswoman Capt. Amy Malugani.

Subject: A MUST READ!!!!

This is very eye-opening!

Living in the Detroit area I can concur with this, we have more muslims in our neighborhood monthly and they are very active in the schools preaching all the time about their "rights" and how tolerant we should be of their faith.

However toleration is a one way street with them. We are to learn about Ramadan, etc. but t hey are not to learn about Easter or Christmas. What is below is very true.

"In God We Trust"

The Basics of Islam

This is a must read -- it's short but Very informative!

The Muslim religion is the fastest growing religion per capita in the United States , especially in the minority races!

Allah or Jesus? by Rick Mathes

Last month I attended my annual training session that's required for

maintaining my state prison security clearance.

During the training session there was a presentation by three speakers

representing the Roman Catholic, Protestant and Muslim faiths, who explained each of their beliefs.

I was particularly interested in what the Islamic Imam had to say.

The Imam gave a great presentation of the basics of Islam complete with a video. After the presentations, time was p rovided for questions and answers.

When it was my turn, I directed my question to the Imam and asked:"Please, correct me if I'm wrong, but I understand that most Imams and clerics of Islam have declared a holy jihad [Holy war] against the infidels of the world. And, that by killing an infidel, which is a command to all Muslims, they are assured of a place in heaven. If that's the case, can you give me the definition of an infidel?"

There was no disagreement with my statements and without hesitation, he replied, "Non-believers!"

I responded, "So, let me make sure I have this straight. All followers of Allah have been commanded to kill everyone who is not of your faith so they can go to Heaven. Is that correct?"

The __expression on his face changed from one of authority and command to that of a little boy who had ju st gotten caught with his hand in the cookie jar.

He sheepishly replied, "Yes."

I then stated, "Well, sir, I have a real problem trying to imagine Pope John Paul commanding all Catholics to kill those of your faith or Dr. Stanley ordering Protestants to do the same in order to go to Heaven!"

The Imam was speechless.

I continued, "I also have a problem with being your friend when you and your brother clerics are telling your followers to kill me. Let me ask you a question. Would you rather have your Allah who tells you to kill me in order to go to Heaven or my Jesus who tells me to love you because I am going to Heaven and He wants you to be with me?"

You could have heard a pin drop as the Imam hung his head.

Needless to say, the organizers and/or promoters of the "Diversification" training semin ar were not happy with Rick's way of dealing with the Islamic Imam and exposing the truth about the Muslim's beliefs.

I think everyone in the U.S. should be required to read this, but with the liberal justice system, liberal media, and the ACLU, there is no way this will be widely publicized. Please pass this on to all your e-mail contacts.

This is a true story and the author, Rick Mathes, is a well-known leader in prison ministry.

Let's Smear Some Marines for the Cause

April 27, 2007: There is now evidence that backs the Marines charged with
killing civilians at Haditha in Iraq. If true, the new evidence would
indicate that al Qaeda carried out another successful information operation
that not only diverted resources into an investigation, but also provided
some anti-war politicians ammunition to not only claim crimes had been
committed, but that there had been a cover-up.

The initial Haditha investigations uncovered some apparent discrepancies in
the Marines' stories, and a criminal investigation by NCIS was launched. This
led to some criminal charges being filed earlier this year. Now, some of the
charges have been dismissed, and it is beginning to look like the accusations
of a massacre may be untrue, making it look like the story may end up to be
more a case of the media getting it wrong. If so, this would not be the first
time.

In 2005, Newsweek reported that guards at Guantanamo Bay flushed a Koran down
a toilet, triggering riots that led to a number of injuries and deaths
throughout the Moslem world. There was just one problem with the report:
Newsweek got it wrong. Investigations reported that there were very few
incidents of mishandling, most of which were unintentional. The Koran had
been flushed down a toilet - by Moslem detainees at Guantanamo Bay, not by
the guards. The damage, though, was done - not only because record was never
corrected, but because it probably aided al Qaeda's recruiting efforts.

Earlier that year, the claims were about torture at the detention center in
Guantanamo Bay, most notably in a speech by Senator Richard Durbin on the
Senate floor. The Department of Defense investigated, and determined that no
torture had occurred. In fact, some of the incidents where the line was
crossed came about due to provocation by detainees under interrogation (one
incident involved an interrogator smearing a detainee with red ink after the
detainee spat on her). Again, the results of the investigation, got nowhere
near the coverage of the initial allegations.

The 2002 Battle of Jenin was another incident portrayed as a massacre by the
Palestinians. The resulting investigations from the United Nations found no
evidence of a massacre involving hundreds of dead (as claimed by various
reports from Palestinian sources and echoed by human rights groups and the
press). Instead, the total number of casualties was 52, the majority of whom
were combatants, not civilians. Again, the results of the investigation
failed to get the same level of coverage the lurid claims of a massacre.

In this day and age, it doesn't take long for a misleading story to spread
out. The comments by Senator Durbin were promulgated across the world in a
matter of hours, and al Jazeera featured them prominently. The same was also
true of Newsweek's story claiming a Koran had been flushed by guards at
Guantanamo Bay. In both cases, the charges were investigated. In both cases,
the claims proved to have little, if any, bearing to what really happened.
The claims of torture were found to be generally unfounded, and in the few
cases where lines were crossed, corrective action had been taken, in some
cases immediately (one such case involved an interrogator who smeared a
detainee with red ink after that detainee spat on her). Worse, the lies were
already spread around by the time the truth was determined and not reported.
In the case of the Koran-flushing, lives were lost.

The media mistakes are becoming all too frequent to dismiss at this point. One
such mistake might be innocent. But this has been "mistake" after "mistake",
all of which have made the United States look bad. Worse, favorable stories
have apparently been spiked. There also was a story for Time magazine about
the 3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment by an embedded reporter that was rewritten
by editors in New York because the original submission made the American
troops look "too heroic". Several reports from Iraq have also been questioned
by bloggers, adding to the controversy. It seems the troops don't get a break
from the same press which is willing to run the latest claims from human
rights groups and anti-war activists without question - even when past claims
have been shown to be off base. - Harold C. Hutchison

*MI6 Are The Lords Of The Global Drug Trade*

*Commentary By James Casbolt Former MI6 Agent c. 2006 James Casbolt*

It may be a revelation to many people that the global drug trade is
controlled and run by the intelligence agencies. In this global drug
trade British intelligence reigns supreme.

As intelligence insiders know MI5 and MI6 control many of the other
intelligence agencies in the world (CIA, MOSSAD etc) in a vast web of
intrigue and corruption that has its global power base in the city of
London, the square mile.

My name is James Casbolt and I worked for MI6 in 'black ops' cocaine
trafficking with the IRA and MOSSAD in London and Brighton between 1995
and 1999. My father Peter Casbolt was also MI6 and worked with the CIA
and mafia in Rome, trafficking cocaine into Britain.

My experience was that the distinctions of all these groups became
blurred until in the end we were all one international group working
together for the same goals. We were puppets who had our strings pulled
by global puppet masters based in the city of London.

Most levels of the intelligence agencies are no t loyal to the people of
the country they are based in and see themselves as 'super national'. It
had been proved beyond a shadow of a doubt that the CIA has been
bringing in most of the drugs into America for the last fifty years (see
ex LAPD officer Michael Rupert's 'From the wilderness' website for proof).

The CIA operates under orders from British intelligence and was created
by British intelligence in 1947. The CIA today is still loyal to the
international bankers based in the city of London and the global elite
aristocratic families like the Rothchilds and the Windsor's.

Since it was first started, MI6 has always brought drugs into Britain.
They do not bring 'some' of the drugs into Britain but I would estimate
MI6 bring in around ninety percent of the drugs in. They do this by
pulling the strings of many organised crime and terrorist groups and
these groups like the IRA are full of MI6 agents.

MI6 bring in heroin from the middle east, cocaine from south America and
cannabis from morocco as well as other places. British intelligence also
designed and created the drug LSD in the 1950's through places like the
Tavistock Institute in London. By the 1960's MI5, MI6 and the CIA were
using LSD as a weapon against the angry protestors of the sixties and
turned them into 'flower children' who were too tripped out to organise
a revolution.

Dr Timothy Leary the LSD guru of the sixties was a CIA puppet. Funds and
drugs for Leary's research came from the CIA and Leary says that Cord
Meyer, the CIA agent in charge of funding the sixties LSD counter
culture has"helped me to understand my political cultural role more
clearly".

In 1998, I was sent 3000 LSD doses on blotting paper by MI5 with
pictures of the European union flag on them. The MI5 man who sent them
told my father this was a government 'signature' and this LSD was called
'Europa'.

This global drugs trade controlled by British intelligence is worth at
least £500 billion a year. This is more than the global oil trade and
the economy in Britain and America is totally dependent on this drug money.

Mafia crime boss John Gotti exposed the situation when asked in court if
he was involved in drug trafficking. He replied"No we can't compete with
the government". I believe this was only a half truth because the mafia
and the CIA are the same group at the upper levels.

In Britain, the MI6 drug money is laundered through the Bank of England,
Barclays Bank and other household name companies. The drug money is
passed from account to account until its origins are lost in a huge web
of transactions. The drug money comes out 'cleaner' but not totally clean.

Diamonds are then bought with this money from the corrupt diamond
business families like the Oppenheimers. These diamonds are then sold
and the drug money is clean. MI6 and the CIA are also responsible for
the crack cocaine epidemic in Britain and America.

In 1978, MI6 and the CIA were in south America researching the effects
of the natives smoking 'basuco' cocaine paste. This has the same effect
as crack cocaine. They saw that the strength and addiction potential was
far greater than ordinary cocaine and created crack cocaine from the
basuco formula. MI6 and the CIA then flooded Britain and America with
crack. Two years later, in 1980, Britain and America were starting to
see the first signs of the crack cocaine epidemic on the streets.

On august 23, 1987, in a rural community south of Little Rock in
America, two teenage boys named Kevin Ives and Don Henry were murdered
and dismembered after witnessing a CIA cocaine drop that was part of a
CIA drug trafficking operation based at a small airport in Mena,
Arkansas. Bill Clinton was the governor of Arkansas at the time.

Bill Clinton was involved with the CIA at this time and $100 million
worth of cocaine was coming through the Mena, Arkansas airport each
month. For proof see the books 'Compromise' and 'Dope Inc'.

On my father's international MI6 drug runs, whatever fell off the back
of the lorry so to speak he would keep and we would sell it in Britain.
As long as my father was meeting the speedboats from Morocco in the
Costa del Sol and then moving the lorry loads of cannabis through their
MI6, IRA lorry business into Britain every month, British intelligence
were happy. As long as my father was moving shipments of cocaine out of
Rome every month, MI5 and MI6 were happy. If my father kept a bit to
sell himself no one cared because there was enough drugs and money to go
round in this £500 billion a year global drugs trade.

The ones who were really paying were the people addicted. Who were
paying with suffering. But karma always catches up and both myself and
my father became addicted to heroin in later years and my father died
addicted, and poor in prison under very strange circumstances. Today, I
am clean and drug-free and wish to help stop the untold suffering this
global drugs trade causes.

The intelligence agencies have always used addictive drugs as a weapon
against the masses to bring in their long term plan for a one world
government, a one world police force designed to be NATO and a micro
chipped population known as the New World Order. As the population is in
a drug or alcohol-induced trance watching 'Coronation Street', the new
world order is being crept in behind them.

To properly expose this global intelligence run drugs trade we need to
expose the key players in this area

1- Tibor Rosenbaum, a MOSSAD agent and head of the Geneva based Banque
du Credit international. This bank was the forerunner to the notorious
Bank of Credit and Commerce international (BCCI) which is a major
intelligence drug money laundering bank.

'Life' magazine exposed Rosenbaum's bank as a money launderer for the
Meyer Lanksky American organised crime family and Tibor Rosenbaum funded
and supported 'Permindex' the MI6 assassination unit which was at the
heart of the John F. Kennedy assassination.

2- Robert Vesco, sponsored by the Swiss branch of the Rothchilds and
part of the American connection to the Medellin drug cartel in Columbia.

3- Sir Francis de Guingand, former head of British intelligence, now
living in south Africa (and every head of MI5 and MI6 has been involved
in the drug world before and after him).

4- Henry Keswick, chairman of Jardine Matheson which is one of the
biggest drug trafficking operations in the world. His brother John
Keswick is chairman of the bank of England.

5- Sir Martin Wakefield Jacomb, Bank of England director from 1987 to
1995, Barclays Bank Deputy Chairman in 1985, Telegraph newspapers
director in 1986 ( This is the reason why this can of worms doesn't get
out in the mainstream media. The people who are perpetrating these
crimes control most of the mainstream media. In America former director
of the CIA William Casey is head of the council of the media network
ABC. Many insiders refer to ABC as 'The CIA network.)

6- George Bush, Snr, former President and former head of the CIA and
America's leading drug baron who has fronted more wars on drugs than any
other president. Which in reality is just a method to eliminate
competition. A whole book could be written on George Bush's involvement
in the global drug trade but it is well-covered in the book 'Dark
Alliance' by investigative journalist Gary Webb. Gary Webb was found
dead with two gunshot wounds to the back of his head with a revolver.
The case was declared a 'suicide'. You figure that out.

Gary Webb as well as myself and other investigators, found that much of
this 'black ops' drug money is being used to fund projects classified
above top secret. These projects include the building and maintaining of
deep level underground bases in Dulce in New Mexico, Pine gap in
Australia, Snowy mountains in Australia, The Nyala range in Africa, west
of Kindu in Africa, next to the Libyan border in Egypt, Mount Blanc in
Switzerland, Narvik in Scandinavia, Gottland island in Sweden and many
other places around the world (more about these underground bases in my
next issue).

The information on this global drugs trade run by the intelligence
agencies desperately needs to get out on a large scale. Any information,
comments or feedback to help me with my work would be greatly welcomed.

From the heart of MajGen, USMC (Ret) Richard Cooke:

I often mention in my posts a little Mexican restaurant that I frequent here in San Diego that goes by the name of Las Quatro Milpas, which serves the best authentic Mexican food in San Diego. I mention it today, because of what has changed when I stand in that long line in the heat down on Logan Avenue waiting for those 5 dear Mexican woman to serve the hundreds of us who show up before I melt in the hot sun.

The line outside of Quatro Milpas is a place to meet new friends, reunite with people you have not seen in weeks or months, but happen to get that same desire for that Chorizo at the same time you did, so that every time you show up again, you can restart your friendship as if it never stopped. Everyone has a story about how long they have been coming to Quatro Milpas or how they discovered it, or how long was the longest line they have stood in waiting to get to their food.

What has changed, is that this week, instead of the jovial mood in the line, I was struck with the thought of what would happen to this place if someone were to walk into the line, and get into the restaurant, around say 1300 hours, at the height of the lunch rush and blow about 100 people to hell in the name of Allah.

As I thought about this, I wondered what it must be like for the people if Israel, who no matter where they go, have to consider the possibility of terrorism, and that their next steps out into society might be their last. I thought about what it must be like for a little Israeli schoolchild on a bus heading from school when someone gets on the bus in the middle of summer wearing a large overcoat.

I have an anger that will not go away this morning, as I watch the media try to tell me that Israel is the aggressor, that they are wantonly killing civilians, and that they must agree to a cease-fire with people who have sworn to kill them. I wish I could say I cannot imagine how we got to this point in society, where a portion of our society would side with the very monsters that have killed both Israelis and Americans, because of a fear of violence, but the reason is all too clear.

The free world has been too tolerant of the non-free world. We have allowed them to be portrayed as victims, and to assume the moral high ground at the same time that they cut the heads off innocent people and film it for worldwide consumption. Okay, that is the nice way to put it. The honest way to put it is that we have lost our nerve. When a society of radicals can drag a dead American through the streets of their towns, and hang their bodies from a bridge as a collective finger flashed at America, and our response is "patience" we have lost not only our nerves, but our balls as well.

I get a sense from the older veteran friends of mine in this city that our problem is that we have it too good, and do not remember what was done on our behalf to make things this good. Have we forgotten that for every time we can leave our homes, go stand in line at our favorite restaurant, and NOT think about the possibility of someone bombing the place, which someone many years ago gave their very life for that freedom we enjoy? I think the young people in line at Quatro Milpas and wonder how many of them would have volunteered to fly with along side Doolittle on his way to Tokyo, knowing they had not the gas to get home? Omaha Beach, anyone? I understand that these days, in Marine Corps boot camp, a recruit can call a "time out" if he is feeling too much stress. Is our State Dept. running the Marines now? This, I find disgusting.

But no more disgusting then those who seek a cease-fire in Lebanon this morning after civilians were killed after their building collapsed from the concussion of a bomb dropped near them that was targeting the site of where rockets were launched into Israel resulting in the deaths of 18 Israeli civilians. It is as though these Israeli deaths do not matter at all. Especially when you stop to consider that this conflict began with Hezbollah coming across the Israeli border, ambushing and killing 8 Israeli soldiers and kidnapping two more.

Cease-fire, my ass!

To every person who believes that you can reason with these animals, I must ask you where your mind went. It is the weakness of the free-world's NON-response that has allowed the terrorist threat to grow into a movement that threatens our very existence. When a U.S. soldier can be dragged through the streets of Somalia and our response is to LEAVE, when 280 Marines can be bombed in their sleep and our response is to LEAVE, when after terrorists kill Spanish civilians on a train, and their nation's response is to elect capitulating socialists who order the immediate retreat of their soldiers from Iraq, and so on, and so on, what are the terrorists to think, but that the free world has become a pussy?

The fact that a majority of Americans think this nation needs AN EXCUSE for going after terrorism after 911 scares the hell out of me. It suggests that we as a nation will eventually fail to produce the men and women who every day, stand between freedom and tyranny. Yesterday, San Diego had its Gay Pride Parade. Oh, the joy.. It was billed as the largest 'celebration' in the cities history. THIS city. The very city where sailors came home to after fighting in Midway. The city that trains half of this nations Marines, hosts the USS Ronald Reagan, the USS Nimitz, the former Fightertown USA...our largest celebration is for the GAY...PRIDE..PARADE. Ponder that with me, will you?

We are at war.

I want Israel to continue, even escalate their attacks on Lebanon. I want them to ignore the media, ignore the pundits, and ignore even the weak among them who want to find a peaceful way out of this current conflict. History teaches us that until a bully is beaten, the bully keeps coming. The free world paid for our freedom in blood, and if blood is what it will take to keep it, then lets just have at it now, shall we?

Let Iran and Syria attempt to aid Hezbollah. Let Israel attack them. Let it escalate until we are forced to fight at Israel's side. Then, can we for the last time, just kick some ass until it is over? Every generation must pay this price, as long as there are those who seek to force us to follow a dictatorial ideology. Radical Islam says, "Agree or die." In response, we should stop asking them, if there is a middle ground to be reached. We should be saying, "Fine, but it is YOU that will die."

Israel, I see you fighting not just for your freedoms, but also for the world's. I trust that if you continue, the free world will be forced to side with you, even if it means that a few of us die in the process. The time is now. It is time for THIS generation to prove itself worthy of those that came before us. It is time for us to say NO MORE to the terrorist threat, to find them and kill them.

Do not stop fighting, Israel. Make the free world help you put an end to this madness. In doing so, you might help us find the courage and moral convictions that made us free to begin with, so that one day, little Jewish children, and old lovers of Mexican food in America can go about our daily lives with the freedom that others died to give us.

AND IT AIN'T CIA FBI

MAKS 2005 Highlights

If the Russians are still adept at designing these type of aircraft, especially the military types, we better sure keep our "Top Gun" schools active!!

The Russians are aiming to make the MAKS airshow the Russian equivalent of the Paris Air Show or the British Farnborough Air Show.
This means making it a showcase for the Russian aerospace industry, and a place where business deals are made, or at least signed.
This Tupolev-334 airliner is one of the aircraft on display for prospective customers, though I doubt if this is the way they'll normally be used! Aeroflot has already ordered the Tu-334, which is a 100 seat successor to the 76 seat Tu-134.

Another local aircraft is this prototype Yakovlev Yak-130 military jet trainer, which was put through its paces along with a MiG "advanced trainer", also a prototype. The Yak-130 was initially developed in a joint venture with the Italian company Aeromacchi.
As well as acting as a trainer for pilots graduating up to the Su-27 "Flanker", the Yak-130 can be outfitted as a light attack aircraft or a ground attack trainer and, as with many Russian designs, it can be used from unpaved airfields.

Each day's show was started by a trio of Sukhoi Su-25 ground attack aircraft, which have the unfortunate NATO code name of "Frogfoot", which raises the question when there are more than one of whether they're "Frogfoots" or "Frogfeet". The Su-25 is the Russian equivalent of the A-10 Thunderbolt II. Like the A-10, the Su-25 has titanium armour for the pilot and it has also been used in combat in Afghanistan, however the Su-25 is faster than the A-10 and, somewhat surprisingly, is said to be more maneuverable. Nicknamed "the comb" because of all of the stores racks which extend out the front of the wing, the Frogfoot has a 30mm cannon and can carry 4000kg (almost 9000lb) of ordnance.

Here's a Russian aircraft that I knew nothing at all about, from a manufacturer that even most aviation enthusiasts have never heard of. The Myasishchev M-55 Geophysica is a civilian version of the M-55 "Mystic" high altitude reconnaisance aircraft. The Geophysica has been doing stratospheric research in Europe, very similar work to NASA ER-2s derived from the U-2 spy plane.

I made the trip from California to this show because I wanted to see Russian aircraft types and it was great to see the Frogfoot and the Mystic, but disappointing that none of the classic Russian bombers or transport planes of the Cold War flew during the weekend. However it was good to see several fighters, even if all of them were derived from either the MiG-29 "Fulcrum" or the Su-27 "Flanker", including the one you see here, an Su-27SMK. The Flanker was a Russian response to the American F-15 Eagle air superiority fighter; the Su-27SMK is an export version with in-flight refuelling capability and 12 hard points for ground attack work, analogous to the F-15E Strike Eagle.

The Zhukovsky Air Field where the show is held is also home to the Gromov Flight Research Institute, which is the Russian equivalent of NASA. Here's one of their test aircraft, a Sukhoi Su-27P. Like the Su-27SMK in the previous photo, this particular aircraft has appeared at several airshows throughout Europe, including several trips to the UK.

Here's a more advanced version of the Flanker, an Su-30MK which is fitted with a pair of small "canard" wings just behind the cockpit, as well as 8 hard points which allow air-to-ground ordnance to be carried in addition to the air-to-air weapons of previous versions, adding ground attack to the Flanker's original pure air-to-air role. The Su-30MK has unbelievable maneuverability because of the "thrust vectoring" feature which allows it to direct the output of its two engines in slightly different directions. This enables it to perform bizarre low speed gyrations which have been dubbed the "cobra maneuver", the "bell" and the "somersault", in which the plane flips 360 degrees without losing any altitude. These maneuvers can be used to fool an enemy's pulse doppler radar, which relies on movement of the target, making the Flanker disappear from the radar screen, at least for a few seconds.

This MiG-29M2 "Fulcrum" also did a great demonstration. The MiG-29M2 has longer range than previous versions of the Fulcrum, thanks largely to the in-flight refuelling equipment which you can see on the left hand side of the nose just in front of the cockpit, and also has a "glass cockpit" with LCDs rather than the "steam gauge" dials of earlier versions. The new fly-by-wire system also makes it considerably more maneuverable.

The MiG-29M2 is more advanced than its predecessors, but this MiG-29OVT is even more sophisticated, and the company insists that the improvements are great enough to merit a new designation, the MiG-35. This version of the Fulcrum was demonstrated in public for the first time just before the show and has a new thrust vectoring system, which you can clearly see in operation in this photo. Unlike earlier versions of thrust vectoring on aircraft like the Su-27 and the American F-22 Raptor which can only pivot up or down, the MiG-35 can vector up, down, left and right. The MiG-35 can also move the nozzles further than earlier versions, up to 18 degrees, to allow even greater feats of maneuverability like the "double somersault" and "boomerang".

The various helicopters on show were one of the highlights for me. It would have been great to have seen an Mi-24 "Hind', the large helicopter gunship which became so familiar in Afghanistan, but we had to make do with this Mil Mi-8 "Hip", one of the most successful helicopters which has ever been produced anywhere. It dropped a parachute display team from altitude and picked them up afterwards. This photo was shot from the crowd side on Friday afternoon, from where you could see a tantalizing collection of MiG 25 Foxbats and other aircraft on the other side of the runway.

My favourite Russian helicopters are those designed by the Kamov design bureau, which specializes in helicopters with contra-rotating rotors, which don't require the tail rotor needed to counteract the torque created by a single main rotor. The tail rotor requires a significant amount of power, anywhere from 10% to 25% of the total,
so a contra-rotating design is inherently more efficient, potentially allowing great lifting capacity and speed, and the lack of a tail rotor is also a significant benefit from the point of view of safety of people operating around the craft.
Two different configurations of the Kamov Ka-226 Sergei light multi-purpose helicopter were shown, this one hauling some drums and another one with a rear cabin occupying the space behind the cockpit. The Ka-226 is an update of the Ka-26 "flying chassis" first delivered in 1965. The detachable cabin can be used for medical evacuation or transport of personnel, or other equipment can be fitted for agricultural or other commercial work.

The main business of Kamov during the Cold War was the design and manufacture of military helicopters, particularly naval models like this Ka-31, which has the NATO reporting name "Helix". This one is shown with a large rotating "Oko" radar panel underneath the fuselage, which allows the helicopter to act as a radar picket to warn the fleet of incoming aircraft. Explosive bolts can be used to jettison the antenna in the event of a forced landing. Kamov has succeeded in selling the "Helix" to Vietnam, India and other countries.

Here's a real beast, another Kamov design called the Ka-50, which NATO knows as the "Hokum" and which the company itself calls the "werewolf" or "Black Shark", the latter name as a reference to its night-fighting ability. There was indeed a Ka-50 in a black color scheme flying at the show, but it did only a single pass each day, while this one in camouflage did an extended display. The Hokum is a single seat ground attack helicopter with several survivability features - armour plating to protect the pilot from armour-piercing bullets and 23mm projectiles, rotors which can withstand impact from ground fired automatic weapons, chaff and flare dispensers, and a rocket-powered pilot ejection system.

For only the second time, the US Air Force sent a contingent to the show, this time consisting of two F-16 Fighting Falcons, two F-15 Eagles, a KC-10 tanker, a KC-135 tanker and this B-1B Lancer bomber. The Lancer gave a pretty ordinary display, but it was certainly an interesting sight to see it flying over the Russian countryside.

There was other foreign participation at the show, including what might be the last ever demonstration by an Italian Air Force G222 cargo plane, which is due to be retired from service soon. This is always a remarkable show, certainly not one you'd imagine a cargo plane is capable of, and in Russia it at least ended without incident, unlike the G222 accident at RIAT 2002 in the UK. The highlight for me was the first ever performance in Russia by a French Armee de l'Air Mirage 2000 fighter, which was the first delta-winged Mirage I'd ever seen flying.

The foreign participation included jet display teams from France and Italy. Surprisingly for a nation with such an active military aerospace industry, the Patrouille de France flies trainers rather than fighters. The Italian Frecce Tricolori (three-coloured arrow) also flies trainers and does some similar maneuvers to the French, such as a synchronised takeoff. They use far more smoke - too much at times, but they do very good close formation flying.

However the Russians were the highlight of the jet display team demonstrations, fielding no fewer than three separate teams! Each day's show ended up with a performance by "Russ" flying the very attractive Czech designed and built L39 Albatros jet trainer, which for many years was the standard Soviet bloc military trainer.

Russ were good, but there's nothing better than a display team flying modern military fighter jets! The "Swifts" fly MiG-29 Fulcrums in 6-ship deltas, 4-ship diamonds and various other arrangements. The formations might not have been as tight as the US Navy Blue Angels, but the novelty of seeing them fly and the raw noise and power from their very smokey engines more than made up for it. The Russian crowd were very vocal and enthusiastic, as they had been for other displays both local and foreign, and it all worked together for a memorable show.

The "Russian Knights" also performed in their Su-27 Flankers, flying riveting 5 ship, 4 ship and solo maneuvers. Again, they weren't as tight as some other teams, but it was an excellent show nevertheless.

The Russians have another trick up their sleeve, however - the Swifts and the Russian Knights performing together! They did several passes in this 9 ship formation before breaking apart for the teams to display separately. It's interesting to see from this display just how much larger the Sukhois are than the MiGs, and interesting also to see the wingtip vortices which came off the MiGs during dives and tight turns, always a nice touch during a display, even if it is less desirable when in battle.

If you consider that there has been an average of 160,000 troops in the Iraq Theater of operations during the last 22 months, and a total of 2,112 deaths, that gives a firearm death rate of 60 per 100,000 soldiers.

The firearm death rate in Washington D.C. is 80.6 per 100,000 for the same period.

That means that you are about 25% more likely to be shot and killed in the

U.S. Capital, which has some of the strictest gun control laws in the nation, than you are in Iraq.

Conclusion: The U.S. should pull out of Washington, DC immediately.

Puerto Rico
Do you remember when Puerto Rico was raising heck about the US Navy using that nothing little island just off the coast of Puerto Rico for bombing practices, which they had used for the past 75 years?
Demonstrations were held, Hollywood left wingers, Al Sharpton, and his fellow demagogues went down there to demonstrate to get the Navy out?
I am sure it infuriated you just as it did me at the time.
Well, here is our revenge.

Always be careful what you ask for, you just may get it!

One of the many headaches that the U. S. has had was the Puerto Rican Island of Vieques. In the waning years of the Clinton Administration, Protesters demanded that the US Navy abandon bombing and naval gun fire exercises that had taken place on the largely uninhabited island for nearly seventy years. Liberal icons bumped into one another to fly to Puerto Rico, boat over to the island, trespass (but never on a day that there was an exercise scheduled) and get arrested for the benefit of the New York Times or Newsweek. They included the Reverend Al Sharpton, Jesse Jackson, Joan Baez, Robert F. Kennedy, Jr., Edward Olmos, Michael Moore and Ramsey Clark, just to name a few.

In 2002, the bombing exercises were transferred to an Air Force bombing range in central Florida, not far from the Jacksonville and Pensacola Naval Air Stations. In January, many of the protesters were back in Puerto Rico, celebrating the final bombing exercise on Vieques and waved Puerto Rican flags and placards that read

"U.S. Navy, get out of Puerto Rico."

The following February, Rumsfeld announced that the U.S. Navy will close the Roosevelt Roads Naval Air Station in Puerto Rico in 2004, eliminating 1200 civilian jobs as well as 700 military positions. This naval facility is estimated to have put nearly $300 million annually into the local economy.

The next day a stunned Governor Sila Calderon, held a news conference in San Juan, protesting the base closure as a serious blow to the Commonwealth's fragile economy. The governor stated that "The people of Puerto Rico don't now or never did have an interest in closing the Vieques bombing range or the Roosevelt Roads naval base. We are interested in both staying in Puerto Rico."

When asked, the Commander-in Chief, Western Atlantic Command, said,"Without Vieques, I see no further need for the facility at Roosevelt Roads. None."

So, Yankee go home? Fine. But we'll take our dollars with us.
Hasta la vista, baby!

On February 21, the Secretary of Defense also announced that starting this year, the U.S. European Command would begin moving most if not all of its active combat and support units from bases in Germany to others being established in Poland, The Czech Republic, Hungary and Turkey to "better position them for rapid deployment to likely hot spots in those parts of the world."

Immediately the business and government leaders in the German states of Hesse, Rhineland and Wurttemburg, protested the loss of nearly $6 billion in revenue each year from the bases and manpower to be displaced.. A spokesman for the Foreign Ministry speculated that the move may be "what the Americans call 'payback' for the actions of this government in opposing Military action in Iraq".

" Does anyone know the German translation for: "Hasta la vista, baby?"
I think "Aufwiedersehen, liebshen" is a good translation.

Oh, ain't it nice to see a government with guts and a good memory.
ATTA BOY BUSH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

GOD BLESS AMERICA

Who's Racist?

Something to think about!

There are African Americans, Mexican Americans, Asian Americans, Arab Americans, Native Americans, etc. And then there are just Americans.

You pass me on the street and sneer in my direction. You call me "Whiteboy," "Cracker," "Onion head," "Honkey," "Whitey," "Caveman" and that's OK.

But when I call you, Nigger, Kike, Towelhead, Sand-nigger, camel Jockey, Beaner, Gook, or Chink you call me a racist.

You say that whites commit a lot of violence against you, so why are the ghettos the most dangerous places to live?

You have the United Negro College Fund.
You have Martin Luther King Day.
You have Black History Month.
You have Cesar Chavez Day.
You have Yom Hashoah
You have Ma'uled Al-Nabi
You have the NAACP.
You have BET.

If we had WET(White Entertainment Television) we'd be Racists.
If we had a White Pride Day you would call us racists.
If we had White History Month, we'd be racists.
If we had any organization for only whites to "advance" our lives, we'd be racists.

We have a Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, a Black Chamber of Commerce, and then we just have the plain Chamber of Commerce.
Wonder who pays for that?

If we had a college fund that only gave white students scholarships, you know we'd be racists. There are over 60 openly proclaimed Black Colleges in the US, yet if there were "White colleges" that would be a racist college.

In the Million Man March, you believed that you were marching for your race and rights. If we marched for our race and rights, you would call us racists.

You are proud to be black, brown, yellow and orange, and you're not afraid to announce it. But when we announce our white pride, you call us racists.

You rob us, carjack us, and shoot at us. But, when a white police officer shoots a black, brown or other race gang member or beats up a black, brown or other race drug-dealer running from the law and posing a threat to society, you call him a racist.

I am proud. But, you call me a racist.

Why is it that only whites can be racists?

There is nothing improper about this email.

THIS WILL OPEN YOUR EYES!

 By Paul Harvey

Conveniently Forgotten Facts. Back in 1969 a group of Black   Panthers decided that a fellow black panther named Alex Rackley needed to die. Rackley was suspected of disloyalty. Rackley was first tied to a chair. Once safely immobilized, his friends tortured him for hours by, among other things, pouring boiling water on him. When they got tired of torturing Rackley, Black Panther member, Warren Kimbo took Rackley outside and put a bullet in his head. Rackley's body was later found floating in a river about 25 miles north of New Haven, Connecticut.

Perhaps at this point you're curious as to what happened to these Black Panthers? In 1977, that's only eight years later, only one of the killers was still in jail. The shooter, Warren Kimbro, managed to get a scholarship to Harvard and became good friends with none other than Al Gore. He later became an assistant dean at an Eastern Connecticut State College. Isn't that something? As a '60s radical you can pump a bullet into someone's head and a few years later, in the same state, you can become an assistant college dean! Only in America!

Erica Huggins was the woman who served the Panthers by boiling the water for Mr. Rackley's torture. Some years later Ms. Huggins was elected to a California School Board. How in the world do you think these killers got off so easy? Maybe it was in some part due to the efforts of two people who came to the defence of the Panthers. These two people actually went so far as to shut down Yale University with demonstrations in defence of the accused Black Panthers during their trial.

One of these people was none other than Bill Lan Lee. Mr. Lee, or Mr. Lan Lee, as the case may be, isn't a college dean. He isn't a member of a California School Board. He is now head of the United States Justice Department's Civil Rights Division, appointed by none other than Bill Clinton. O. K., so who was the other Panther defender? Is this other notable Panther defender now a schoolboard member? Is this other Panther apologist now an assistant college dean?

No, neither! The other Panther defender was, like Lee, a radical law student at Yale University at the time. She is now known as "The smartest woman in the world." She is none other than the Democratic senator from the State of New York----our former First Lady, the incredible Hillary Rodham Clinton. And now, as Paul Harvey said; "You know the rest of the story". Pass this on! This deserves the widest possible press. Also remember it, when, she runs for President.

Teddy's Answer to Diversity!

There is no room in this country for hyphenated Americanism. The one absolutely certain way of bringing this nation to ruin, of preventing all possibility of its continuing to be a nation at all, would be to permit it to become a tangle of squabbling nationalities.

— Theodore Roosevelt, speech before the Knights of Columbus, 1915, New York

Teddy's Answer to Bush!

To announce that there must be no criticism of the president, or that we are to stand by the president right or wrong, is not only unpatriotic and servile, but is morally treasonable to the American public.

Muslims in America

Coexistence of Judeo-Christian and Muslim Societies
from the Internet (Details) |

-Bigoted or not........just read and think and draw your own
conclusions.

Can Muslims be Good Americans?

Can a devout Muslim be an American patriot and a
loyal citizen? Consider this:

Theologically, no. Because his allegiance is to
Allah, the moon god of Arabia.

Scripturally, no. Because his allegiance is
to the five pillars of Islam and the Quran (Koran).

Geographically, no. Because his allegiance
is to Mecca, to which he turns
in prayer five times a day.

Socially, no. Because his allegiance to
Islam forbids him to make friends
with Christians or Jews.

Politically, no. Because he must submit to
the mullah (spiritual leaders), who teach annihilation of Israel and
destruction of America, the great Satan.

Domestically, no, because he is instructed
to marry four women and beat
and scourge his wife when she disobeys him
(Quran 4:34).

Religiously, no. Because no other religion
is accepted by his Allah
except Islam (Quran, 2:256)

Intellectually, no, because he cannot accept
the American Constitution
since it is based on Biblical principles and
he believes the Bible to be corrupt.

Philosophically, no, because Islam,
Muhammad, and the Quran do not allow
freedom of religion and expression.

Democracy and Islam cannot co - exist.
Every Muslim government is either dictatorial or autocratic.

Spiritually, no, because when we declare
"one nation under God," the
Christian's God is loving and kind, while
Allah is NEVER referred to as
our heavenly father, nor is he ever called
love in the Quran's 99 excellent names.

Therefore after much study and deliberation....perhaps we should be
very
suspicious of ALL MUSLIMS in this country. They obviously cannot be
both
good Muslims and good Americans. Call it what you wish...it's still the

truth. If you find yourself intellectually in agreement with the above,

perhaps you will share this with your friends. The more who understand

this, the better it will be for our country.

Pass it on. The war is bigger than we know.

US troops 'would have fought Iranian captors'

By Terri Judd in Bahrain

Published: 26 March 2007

Independent (U.K.)

A senior American commander in the Gulf has said his men would have fired on the Iranian Revolutionary Guard rather than let themselves be taken hostage.

In a dramatic illustration of the different postures adopted by British and US forces working together in Iraq, Lt-Cdr Erik Horner - who has been working alongside the task force to which the 15 captured Britons belonged - said he was "surprised" the British marines and sailors had not been more aggressive.

Asked by The Independent whether the men under his command would have fired on the Iranians, he said: "Agreed. Yes. I don't want to second-guess the British after the fact but our rules of engagement allow a little more latitude. Our boarding team's training is a little bit more towards self-preservation."

The executive officer - second-in-command on USS Underwood, the frigate working in the British-controlled task force with HMS Cornwall - said: " The unique US Navy rules of engagement say we not only have a right to self-defence but also an obligation to self-defence. They [the British] had every right in my mind and every justification to defend themselves rather than allow themselves to be taken. Our reaction was, 'Why didn't your guys defend themselves?'"

His comments came as it was reported British intelligence had been warned by the CIA that Iran would seek revenge for the detention of five suspected Iranian intelligence officers in Iraq two months ago but refused to raise threat levels in line with their US counterparts. The capture of the eight sailors and seven marines - including one young mother - will undoubtedly renew accusations that Britain's determination to maintain a friendly face in the region has left its troops frequently under protected.

Vastly outnumbered and out-gunned, the Royal Navy team from HMS Cornwall were seized on Friday after completing a UN-authorised inspection of a merchant dhow in what they insist were clearly Iraqi waters. The Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps Navy appeared in half a dozen attack speedboats mounted with machine guns..

Yesterday, the former First Sea Lord, Admiral Sir Alan West, said British rules of engagement were "very much de-escalatory, because we don't want wars starting ... Rather than roaring into action and sinking everything in sight we try to step back and that, of course, is why our chaps were, in effect, able to be captured and taken away."

Three days after the team were taken hostage, Tony Blair publicly spoke about the diplomatic crisis for the first time. "I hope the Iranian government understands how fundamental an issue this is for us," he said

"We have certainly sent the message back to them very clearly indeed. They should not be under any doubt at all about how seriously we regard this act, which is unjustified and wrong," he added, speaking from Berlin.

In a telephone conversation with the Iranian Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki last night the Foreign Secretary Margaret Beckett "expressed concern regarding the detention of the British soldiers". An Iranian official later confirmed that Iran may give consular access to the British sailors once an investigation into the incident is completed.

Yesterday, the armed forces spokesman General Ali Reza Afshar said the crew were in "sterling health" and were being interrogated in Tehran, where the Iranians claim they have "confessed" to straying into Iranian waters.

The Foreign Office minister, Lord Triesman, held "frank" discussions with the Iranian ambassador yesterday .

RVN-USMC_RECON

Mobile Helicopter Killers Found and Destroyed in Iraq March 19, 2007

American troops in Iraq figured out how Iraqi terrorists had managed to ambush American helicopters with heavy machine-guns and get away with it. The Iraqis had used trucks with the machine-gun mounted in the back, and a tarp over metal supports (a common feature of military trucks) to conceal the weapon. The tarp was rigged so it could be quickly pulled aside, as well as the metal supports for the tarp. This enabled the heavy machine-gun to immediately open fire. There were four of these trucks, and they roamed around areas that American helicopters were operating above.

One of these trucks was spotted, with its machine-gun revealed, by a UAV, after informants indicated that this was probably the weapon responsible. U.S. intelligence then analyzed video and other data they had, and put more UAVs over areas believed frequented by the trucks. On the ground, intelligence operatives began beating the bushes for information on these mobile flak traps. Soon the four trucks were identified and, one by one, destroyed with smart bombs. Vehicles like this are particularly popular in Africa, where they are called "technicals" (and the heavy machine-guns are used mainly against ground targets.)

The Iraqi innovation was the hide the machine-gun, until it had to be used against a passing helicopter. The Iraqis came up with this concept because, in the past, when heavy machine-guns were used against aircraft, U.S. aircraft and ground troops were usually all over the area before the 14.5mm heavy machine-gun could be moved or hidden. These machine-guns weigh several hundred pounds, and even when disassembled, the lightest component weighs 176 pounds. I

It took four years for an Iraqi to realize that heavy machine-gun would only work against the American helicopters if the weapons were mobile, and not easily identified. But that will be difficult now, as the Americans know what to look for, and the word is out in Sunni Arab areas (where the Iraqi "technicals" operated, so reduce the chances of an informer turning them in), that there is a reward for anyone providing information on additional systems like this.

Eight helicopters have crashed in Iraq since January, most from heavy (14.5mm) machine-gun fire. In some of those cases, the hostile fire appeared to be carefully planned. That is, multiple machine-guns, including at least one heavy machine-gun were placed along a route used by helicopters, and fired in a coordinated matter. This tactic is called "flak trap," and dates back to World War II (or earlier). This tactic works if you can use surprise, and the concealed, truck mounted, heavy machine-guns did that.

The enemy has also been using portable surface-to-air missiles since 2003, including more modern models, like the SA-16 (which is similar to the American Stinger.) American helicopters are equipped with missile detection and defense (flare dispensers) equipment. Thus the most dangerous anti-aircraft weapon is the machine-gun.

However, despite the recent losses, aircraft losses to ground fire have been declining every year, since 2003, mainly because of good defensive tactics. Moreover, the most vulnerable aircraft, helicopters, have been spending more time in the air. In 2005, U.S. Army aircraft (mainly helicopters) flew 240,000 hours over Iraq. That increased to 334,000 hours last year, and is expected to go to 400,000 hours in 2007. The more time helicopters are in the air, the more opportunities someone has to shoot at them. Since 2003, the United States has lost 60 helicopters in Iraq. Most of them belonged to the U.S. Army, the rest were marine or civilian (mainly security contractors.)

In the last year, helicopters were fired on about a hundred times a month, and about 17 percent of the time, the helicopters were hit. In Vietnam (1966-71), 2,076 helicopters were lost to enemy fire (and 2,566 to non-combat losses). In Vietnam, helicopters flew 36 million sorties (over 20 million flight hours). In Vietnam, helicopters were about twice as likely to get brought down by enemy fire. As in Iraq, the main weapons doing this were machine-guns. Today's helicopters are more robust, partly because of Vietnam experience, and are more likely to stay in the air when hit, and land, rather than crash.

WHERE'S WINSTON?

By RALPH PETERS

April 3, 2007 -- THE greatest shock from the Middle East this year hasn't been terrorist ruthlessness or the latest Iranian tantrum. It's that members of Britain's Royal Marines wimped out in a matter of days and acquiesced in propaganda broadcasts for their captors.

Jingoism aside, I can't imagine any squad of U.S. Marines behaving in such a shabby, cowardly fashion. Our Marines would have fought to begin with. Taken captive by force, they would've resisted collaboration. To the last man and woman.

You could put a U.S. Marine in a dungeon and knock out his teeth, but you wouldn't knock out his pride in his country and the Corps. "Semper fi" means something.

And our Aussie allies would be just as tough.

What on earth happened to the Royal Marines? They're members of what passes for an elite unit. Has the Labor government's program to gut the U.K. military - grounding planes, taking ships out of service and deactivating army units - also ripped the courage from the breasts of those in uniform?

The female sailor who broke down first and begged for her government to surrender was pathetic enough. But when Royal Marines started pleading for tea and sympathy . . . Ma, say it ain't so!

Meanwhile, back at No. 10 "Downer" Street, British politicians are more upset that President Bush described their sailors and Marines as "hostages" than they are with the Iranians.

Okay, Lord Spanker and Lady Fanny - what exactly are those sailors and Marines? Package tourists?

Naturally, the European Union has praised Britain's "restraint." We've now got another synonym for cowardice.

I've always respected the Brits and quite liked those I worked with when in uniform . . . but I'm starting to wonder if I bought into a legend. While criticizing our military's approach to everything, the Brits made an utter balls of it in Basra - now they're bailing out, claiming "Mission accomplished!" (OK, they had a role model . . .) In Heaven, Winston Churchill's puking up premium scotch.

The once-proud Brit military has collapsed to a sorry state when its Royal Marines surrender without a fight, then apologize to their captors (praising their gentle natures!) while criticizing their own country. Pretty sad to think that the last real warriors fighting under the Union Jack are soccer hooligans.

Of course, bravery isn't equally distributed. One or even two collaborators might be explicable. But not all 15.

Yes, journalists and other civilian captives routinely make embarrassing statements on videos, chiding their governments and begging to be swapped for a battalion of mass murderers. One expects nothing better. But military men and women in the English-speaking tradition historically maintained high standards over long years in brutal captivity - and this hostage situation has barely lasted long enough to microwave a bag of popcorn.

Think about Sen. John McCain with his broken limbs undergoing torture in that Hanoi prison - and refusing an early chance to be repatriated because he wouldn't leave his comrades behind. Think he'd do a Tokyo Rose for Tehran?

The Iranians judged their victims well: The British boat crews didn't make even a token effort at defending themselves. Now their boo-hoo-we-quit government isn't defending them, either. Was Margaret Thatcher the last real man in Britain?

The correct response to the seizure of 15 British military hostages - if not released promptly - would've been to hit 15 Revolutionary Guards facilities or vessels along the Iranian coast, then threaten to hit 30 deeper inland the next day.

By hammering the now-degenerate Revolutionary Guards, the Coalition would've strengthened the less-nutty and less-vicious regular military and emboldened President Mahmoud Ahmedinejad's growing number of opponents within the government. (It was telling that the Revolutionary Guards could only muster about 200 demonstrators to harass the British embassy - it didn't look much like 1979.)

Instead, we allowed the Iranian hardliners to humiliate a once-great military and encourage hostage-takers everywhere.

At the very least, the British naval officer commanding in the zone of operations and the vocal collaborators among the hostages should be court-martialed. And the Royal Marine company to which those wankers belong should be disbanded and stricken from the rolls.

John Bull has been cowed. By a pack of unshaven thugs. And the Britannia that ruled the waves is waving goodbye.

U.S.: Helicopter losses due to ground fire

All four U.S. helicopters that have crashed in Iraq since Jan. 20 appear to have been brought down by "some kind" of ground fire but it is unclear whether this represents any new threat to U.S. aviation, the chief U.S. military spokesman said Sunday.

Troubled Troops In No-Win Plight

Marines Kicked Out For Conduct Linked To Stress Disorder Are Often Denied

Treatment By The VA

(USA Today, November 2, 2006, Pg. 1)

By Gregg Zoroya, USA TODAY

CAMP PENDLETON, Calif. - Chris Packley returned from Fallujah in 2004 a top

marksman on a sniper team showcased in the Marine Corps Times for its 22

kills.

"I was exceptionally proud of that Marine," says Gunnery Sgt. Scott Guise,

his former team leader.

He also came home with flashbacks - memories of his friend, Lance Cpl.

Michael Blake Wafford, 20, dying on the battlefield. Packley says he smoked

marijuana to try to escape the images. He also left the base without

permission. "I wanted out," Packley says.

Last year he got his wish and was expelled from the Marine Corps. As a

consequence, he lost access to the free counseling and medication he needed

to treat the mental wounds left from combat, according to Packley, his

former defense lawyer and documents from the Department of Veterans Affairs.

Scores of combat veterans like Packley are being dismissed from the Marines

without the medical benefits needed to treat combat stress, says Lt. Col.

Colby Vokey, who supervises the legal defense of Marines in the western USA,

including here at Camp Pendleton.

When classic symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) arise -

including alcoholism and drug abuse - the veterans are punished for the

behavior, Vokey says. Their less-than-honorable discharges can lead to a

denial of VA benefits. Vokey calls it a Catch-22, referring to the no-win

situation showcased in Joseph Heller's 1961 satirical war novel Catch-22.

"The Marine Corps has created these mental health issues" in combat

veterans, Vokey says, "and then we just kind of kick them out into the

streets."

Characters in Catch-22 were caught in a contradiction. They could be

relieved of dangerous flying missions if crazy. But if they claimed to be

crazy, they were deemed sane for trying to avoid danger and had to keep

flying.

In Iraq, Marines who perform well in combat can be lauded for it. But if

they develop PTSD, they can be punished for stress-related misconduct,

kicked out of the military and denied treatment for their illness.

In recent months, the Marine Corps has begun investigating the matter,

identifying 1,019 Marines who may fall into this group since the war in Iraq

began. All served at least one year in the Marines and one tour overseas

before being discharged for misconduct.

"We're digging down into the data sources we have to try and come up with

answers," says Navy Capt. William Nash, who coordinates the Marine Corps'

combat stress programs. "That it happens at all is obviously not ideal."

He says each case will be examined to learn whether the Marine suffered

combat stress and whether that might have contributed to the misconduct.

The results could help the Marine Corps flag combat-stressed Marines and

help them avoid getting into trouble, Nash says.

More aggressive about PTSD

The military has moved more aggressively in this war to educate and treat

combat stress than in previous conflicts. Mental health teams have been sent

to Iraq and Afghanistan. Soldiers and Marines are asked about their mental

and physical health before and after their tours.

A 2004 Army study showed that about 17% of combat troops suffer PTSD, a rate

comparable with Vietnam-era stress among such troops, says Joseph Boscarino,

a senior investigator with the Geisinger Center for Health Research in

Danville, Pa., who has conducted extensive PTSD research on Vietnam

veterans.

Vokey and his lawyers say they are convinced, based on reviews of medical

records, that combat stress was a major factor in the misconduct cases. They

argue that either the Pentagon or VA should revise its policies so that

these combat veterans are not stripped of the medical care they need to get

better.

"People would be appalled if the guy came back and he had lost a leg, lost a

limb, and then we say, 'Oh, you had a DUI (driving under the influence), so

you're going to have to give your prosthetic back,' " says Marine Capt.

James Weirick, a former member of Vokey's staff. "But to a great extent,

we're doing that with these people."

Packley, 24, received an other-than-honorable discharge. According to a VA

document Packley's mother, Patricia, shared with USA TODAY, the department

acknowledges he has PTSD but denied him benefits in July.

"You go to war and they can't even help you with the problems you get from

it," says Packley, who now does state highway construction in Joliet, Ill.

He says he has been off anti-anxiety, anti-depression and sleep medications

for months because he cannot afford it. "I'm just so stressed," he says. "It

doesn't take much to get me almost panic-stricken anymore."

Heroes in trouble

Marine Capt. Mike Studenka, who supervises a law office located amid

infantry battalions at Camp Pendleton, says he sees about 40 Marines each

month who are in trouble. About a third fit the profile of combat veterans

with impressive records who suddenly have drug or alcohol problems and face

dismissal and loss of benefits.

"You have guys coming in this building who are, no question about it, heroes

in everything that they have done in the past," Studenka says. "You have

them saying, 'I just need to get out. I want out.' That breaks your heart."

The Marine Corps says post-traumatic stress disorder is no legal defense to

misconduct and that discipline must be maintained.

"PTSD does not force anyone to do an illegal act," Nash says. "The

consequences to the Marine Corps of not upholding those standards of

behavior would be a much greater tragedy. It would dishonor all those

Marines who have been injured by the stress of war but who have not broken

the rules."

Marines, sailors, soldiers and airmen who get in trouble can receive one of

four discharges. The lightest is a general discharge, often described as

"under honorable conditions," in which recipients remain eligible for most

VA benefits.

More serious misconduct can lead to an other-than-honorable discharge or,

worse, a bad conduct discharge. A serious felony results in a dishonorable

discharge.

The law prohibits a veteran from receiving the full spectrum of VA benefits

- such things as health care, insurance and home loans - in certain cases,

such as those involving deserters, conscientious objectors or those who

receive dishonorable discharges.

But the VA has discretion to grant full benefits in other-than-honorable or

bad conduct discharge cases. It can still deny them if the agency decides

the underlying misconduct was "willful and persistent," a largely subjective

decision, VA official Jack McCoy says.

Statistics from 1990 through September show that about eight out of 10

veterans who received bad-conduct discharges were turned down when they

sought benefits, McCoy says.

Few exceptions

Even if the full package of benefits is denied, the VA can still grant

health care for specific war-related injuries such as PTSD. Gary Baker,

director of the VA's health eligibility center, says that in his 20 years of

experience he has seen this exception granted fewer than six times.

The VA offers temporary counseling, but no medication, for veterans who are

appealing their discharges. Counseling ends if the appeal fails. Vokey

argues that the VA could relax its practices and treat veterans who are

discharged for PTSD-related misconduct.

Mental health experts say this problem almost certainly occurred in prior

wars. But combat-induced mental disorders and how they may contribute to bad

behavior were not as well understood.

The issue exists today in the Army but to a lesser degree, says Army Lt.

Col. John Wells, a former supervising defense lawyer. Combat-stress cases

involving misconduct are handled in informal ways that often do not lead to

a loss of benefits, Wells says.

The Marine Corps, by comparison, prides itself on its strict standards.

"We take discipline infraction very seriously," says Lt. Col. Scott Fazekas,

a Marine Corps spokesman. It prosecutes about the same number of troops as

the Army each year for misconduct, though it is only one-third the Army's

size.

The Marine Corps also does a disproportionate share of fighting and dying in

Iraq, making up 20% of U.S. ground forces while suffering 30% of the

casualties. More than 10% of American troops who died in Iraq were Marines

from Camp Pendleton, which has lost almost 300, more than any other military

base.

Marine Corps statistics, though incomplete, show PTSD cases doubled from

about 250 in 2003 to 596 in 2004, and then doubled again to 1,229 in 2005.

Although Marine Corps officials say the service has come a long way in

recognizing and treating PTSD, they acknowledge that it still struggles to

provide treatment resources and to overcome the stigma against those who

suffer mental health problems.

"There might be some commanders out there who aren't really willing to

accept that there is such a thing as post-traumatic stress syndrome," says

Marine Col. Hank Donegan, a military intelligence officer at Pendleton.

Vokey and his staff agree that many troubled Marines should leave the Marine

Corps, for their sake and that of the Corps. To strip them of benefits is

wrong, they say. "It seems to me our country has bought that problem and we

ought to fix it as best we can," says Melissa Epstein, a Los Angeles lawyer

and former Marine captain on Vokey's staff.

A medal winner's trauma

One of those PTSD cases involved Ryan Birrell, 24, who served as a sergeant

with the 1st Battalion, 7th Marine Regiment. After his second tour, in

2004-05, he received the Bronze Star with a "V" for combat heroism.

The citation described five separate episodes of valor, including one

morning in February 2005 when Birrell organized the defense of a

fog-shrouded observation post in Husaybah that came under multiple attacks

by insurgents and suicide car-bombers. A wounded Birrell rallied his troops,

tended to casualties and directed fire, often while exposed to enemy

gunfire.

"Sgt. Birrell reflected great credit upon himself and upheld the highest

tradition of the Marine Corps," his citation reads.

After coming home, Birrell took an assignment earlier this year as a drill

instructor at the Marine Corps Recruit Depot in San Diego, and his life

began to fall apart.

Diagnosed with PTSD, he suddenly demanded a divorce from his wife, abused

alcohol and methamphetamine and left his base without permission, say

Birrell and Weirick, then his lawyer.

Kicked out of the Marine Corps with an other-than-honorable discharge, he

lived in Tijuana, Mexico, for months, often homeless.

"What brought me down there was how the streets were kind of like being in

Iraq - that kind of turmoil-type stuff," Birrell says now.

Birrell says that in Tijuana, he could fill his head with thoughts of where

to find food or shelter.

Growing tired of that life, he finally called his parents and they brought

him to their home in Las Vegas last month. "Life is great," says his mother,

Kim Lukas, who says she's ecstatic to have him home again.

For Birrell, who now lives in Torrance, Calif., insomnia is back. "When I do

sleep," he says, "I'm constantly waking up from dreams, constantly tired

throughout the day." His nightmares are of war. He visited VA offices

Tuesday asking for benefits despite his other-than-honorable discharge.

Birrell says he needs treatment for his PTSD. Weirick fears they will turn

him down regardless of his battlefield heroism.

Lukas says that makes her angry. "He's done two tours over there, and God

knows how many lives he's saved," she says. "He's going to need the care."
