Alan Deegan
Alan Deegan's Story I was an Aviation Ordnanceman, MOS 6511 assigned to VMGR-152, Sub Unit #1 from September, 1966 to September, 1967. I was a member of the first crew that dropped night-illumination flares via the Marine KC-130 over South Vietnam. Our KC-130 flareships could carry 360 MK-24 flares at one time. The MK-24 is 5"x36" and burns at 3M Candlepower for 3min. I have several photos of our flare operation, both on this site and on my TWS ( www.togetherweserved.com) site at Sgt Victor A Deegan (Deeg). When we weren’t able to fly at night we helped deliver personnel, fuel and supplies on daytime runs to places like Chu Lai, Phu Bai, Dong Ha and Khe Sanh.
